It wasn't.

It's worse than it sounds, but not in the way Gideon's imagining.

That's what I expected out of it. That he'd simply kill me. I was fortunate or blessed and provoked him into fighting me
as fairly as he could.

It still hadn't gone well but he had scored first blood, so technical win.
